That the term Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil found listed on soaps as an ingredient is an all encompassing term for all types and varieties of Olive Oil. Most soap makers use an Olive Oil variety known as Olive Pomace which is the least expensive cut of Oil processed with the use of solvents.  We at the Sandy Hook Soap Factory use an excellent quality 100% Natural, First Cold Pressing Extra Virgin Olive Oil in every recipe.  It makes an amazing difference in the quality of the soap and feels wonderfully hydrating to the skin. Did You Know ... In Canada the term "natural" is not regulated, there are absolutely no guidelines as to usage.  It is important to be diligent in reading ingredient lists and not to be lulled into a false sense of credibility by seeing the words "natural ingredients" or by a natural looking presentation in packaging.  Did You Know ... That Essential Oil of Lime derived from the peel is phototoxic to the skin.  After applying products which are phototoxic one should not expose themselves to the sun for 48 hours or risk skin cell damage.  We have sourced a Whole Fruit Steam Distilled Lime Essential Oil from purveyors of fine Oils in England in order to provide a nonphototoxic variety of Lime Oil for our fine soaps. Did You Know ... That to make Bar Soap you must use Sodium Hydroxide. It is what turns the liquid fats chosen for the soap into a solid.  Many commercial bars list the ingredients in a combined form so that the sodium hydroxide is not listed separately. i.e.:  Sodium Palmitate: Palm Oil with Sodium Hydroxide; Sodium Tallowate: Animal Fat with Sodium Hydroxide and  Sodium Coconate: Coconut Oil with Sodium Hydroxide. Did You Know ... In the process of soap making about 1/3 of the resulting bar is natural glycerine.  In commercial soap making the glycerine is extracted and used in other personal care products like hand and body lotion.  This is one of the reasons many find commercial bar soap to be quite drying to the skin.  At the Sandy Hook Soap Factory all glycerine is retained in our Natural Soap bars. The use of Lavender has been documented for over 2,500 years; it is truly a timeless classic.  There are several different varieties of Lavender which are all used to produce slightly different versions of the Essential Oil Lavandula Angustifolia.  We have grown to love the variety Bulgarian True Lavender which seems sweeter to the nose.  This wonderful Essential Oil that we choose to include in our recipes is also Certified Organic. Did You Know ... Most clients that use our moisturizing Natural Soaps on a regular basis do not require the use of body lotions. Did You Know ... Prior to the inundation of petroleum derived body wash products to the market some 30 years ago, soap had been the tested and true cleansing product for thousands of years. Did You Know ... The term fragrance or parfum contained in most soaps and body washes may contain one or many of 4000 approved chemical ingredients of which less than 10% have ever been tested. Did You Know ... All flower petals and botanical leaves we use in our products are either grown by us fully naturally, are certified organic or are documented to be cultivated without chemicals. In order to create a more protein rich and creamy Natural Soap we select excellent quality Milk products.  Our Goat Milk Soaps are from kosher, antibiotic and (added) hormone-free whole goat milk powder.  Our regular Milk Soaps contain certified organic milk powder and our Vegan Milk Soaps contain certified organic Coconut Milk. Unscented soaps may not be truly unscented.  The designation of this word can mean that fragrance masking chemicals have been used in the product.  It may also mean that the manufacturer at their level did not add any scent, but the base product they received may be scented.  At the Sandy Hook Soap Factory our Unscented Soap means just that 100% and absolutely unscented. We strive to produce reasonably priced, basic, gentle and truly natural soap and natural shampoo products by hand, the artisan way, for the entire family including baby soaps and vegan varieties without the use of dyes, preservatives or chemical parfums.    We specialize in products for those dealing with sensitivities or the informed consumer concerned about the use of petroleum-based, artificially fragranced products.  As the term "natural" is not regulated in Canada everyone must take an active roll to ensure ingredients in the products purchased are of quality and integrity.
